Note Taking

I am a note taker.  I take all kinds of notes on various things that I find interesting or for projects that I am researching.  My problem has always been organization of these notes and thoughts and losing these thoughts.

Recently I was shared a new app called Obsidian.  Obsidian uses a unique note taking application that has the ability to combine, share and link ideas to make productivity of thought and research easier to use.

I liked the idea and have been working diligently on this for a couple of days.  I decided last night that this app is way to difficult because of the learning curve needed to make it all work.  Basically I just don't have the patience to learn how to use the application.

Going back to a couple of days ago I tried to get a topic added to Wikipedia which I was kicked off because it was to biographical.  This irritated me so I started looking into making my own Wikipedia type source.  I was shocked to find out that there is a large following of people who have tried and succeeded in doing that very thing.  Unfortunately for me the learning curve is part of making it all work.  To much time to put into something just to see if I like it or not.

This brought me to an article last night which detailed how to use Microsoft OneNote as a personal encyclopedia.  Bam!  Worked perfectly.

The best thing about using OneNote is that I have used it for years.  The ease of use is another.  No learning curve just to make it work.

I was able to make my own topics and link them to other pages within OneNote and bam I got my own encyclopedia.

Click a link and it takes me to my notes on that topic.

From here the world is my oyster!  Look out world.

  1. Cool, can you include a link to the source article about using one note as your own encyclopedia?
